Carl Ruby knew their hometown of Springfield, Ohio, had loads of issues, but the one thing in specific caught their eye around three years back. He counted five McDonald’s restaurants into the city of approximately 60,000 people—and 18 payday financing stores.
Ruby, the senior pastor of Springfield’s Central Christian Church, had heard unpleasant records of men and women switching to payday lenders once they could not spend their month-to-month bills—and then experiencing excessive rates of interest and recurring charges.
